MODERN APPRENTICESHIPS: EARN WHILE YOU LEARN

If you're 18 or under* and interested in a career in Administration, Customer Service, IT, Call Handling or Hospitality, a Modern Apprenticeship is the way forward.

*Some qualifications are open to employees over the age of 18.

You may begin as a trainee but with Southwest you will receive an above-average allowance and full travelling expenses. It's the ideal pathway to a quality permanent position.

What qualifications do I need?
Ideally,
• good Standard Grade passes
• basic business skills, or an aptitude and willingness to learn
• the ambition to develop a worthwhile career

What happens at my interview?
Southwest will evaluate your qualifications, tell you which level is the right starting point for you, and discuss the type of work that interests you.

Where will I work?
Southwest will place you with one of many private sector professional or commercial companies throughout Dumfries and Galloway.

What will Southwest provide?
We'll provide high quality mentoring throughout your apprenticeship. Our expert trainers will visit you at your place of work to provide on-the-job assessment and guidance. You may also be given day-release for training at the Crichton Campus where you will compile your NVQ portfolio, meet your fellow trainees and enjoy using the very latest technology.

How long will it take to complete my qualification?
Up to 18 months, depending on your starting point. You'll progress at the pace that's appropriate for you.

What happens next?
Most young people who have begun as trainees become full employees during or on completion of the NVQ, at which point they continue to complete the Modern Apprenticeship. If you later decide to go on to college or university, you'll find that the Modern Apprenticeship has been an ideal stepping-stone.
